Janie and her family moved to Garden City in the early seventies from Mexico. Due to her limited academic education, non-English speaking background, and unfamiliarity with her new surroundings, she had many challenges to overcome. She said she was grateful for and gives credit to her faith, family, teachers and community members for her positive successes in life.
Janie and her husband, Harold Perkins, a family physician, have been married for 25 years and have five children.
