The college participates inWorkforce Education Employer Engagement

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School is participating in the Workforce Education Employer Engagement Initiative through the Kansas Board of Regents Kansas Department of Commerce. This initiative will help ensure that Kansas businesses have a skilled and highly qualified workforce. Industry leaders, workforce stakeholders and postsecondary education institutions across Kansas support this initiative. Kansas companies can use this system of industry-endorsed credentials to standardize the skills and knowledge workers bring to the labor market. By enhancing and strengthening the Kansas workforce in this way, the state plans to expand economic activity in the state and increase job growth. Local and are businesses, including can participate in this initiative by supporting one of three levels. NAPA of Liberal, Keating Tractor, Kansas State Business Development Center and Kenworth are already signed up for the program. Employers who participate on the “Supporter Level” sign the Kansas Department of Commerce Skills Pledge and assist with one additional activity, by participating in career fairs for colleges and workforce system, providing guest speakers to college programs, providing facility tours to instructors and students, using or advocating for education and/or workforce system at local, state or national level. Employers who participate on the “Partner Level” recognize Industry Credentials in the hiring process and participate in two additional opportunities by assisting education delivery by providing needed resources, serving on secondary and/or postsecondary advisory committees, providing professional development for faculty, providing expertise in design of facilities and equipment needs, assisting program faculty with instructional delivery, providing feedback to students through mock interviews or assisting with program design. Employers who participate on the “Champion Level” prioritize credentialed applicants and participate in two additional opportunities by providing paid/unpaid internships for students or faculty, interviewing students prior to graduation, referring unsuccessful job applicants to college education programs, providing professional development and industry certifications for instructors, becoming a formal advocate for education and/or workforce system at state or national level, utilizing college system for incumbent worker training, providing scholarships for students, diversifying regional business partnerships or providing industry certifications for instructors.
